Bidwell Park in Chico, CA

1968 East The 8th St, Chico, CA

Bidwell Park is one of the largest parks located within a city in the US. With over 3600 acres. It is a massive pet-friendly park right in the heart of Chico, CA. What could be better than that? But it is also a historic park. Bidwell Park was established in 1905 through the generous donation of 2500 acres by Annie Bidwell. Annie Bidwell was the wife of Chico’s founder, John Bidwell.

This is an amazing resource for dogs and dog lovers with miles of trails and spectacular views that you can enjoy and explore with your four-legged friend. The entire park is open to dogs provided they are leashed. But the park also boasts specific areas that allow an off-leash experience for Fido, most specifically in Upper Bidwell Park.

Bidwell-Sacramento River State Park is known for its activities on the Sacramento River. This 350-acre park pet-friendly park is located in Chico, CA. This park is dedicated to habitat preservation along the Sacramento River as well as Big Chico Creek, the river’s tributary.

There are plenty of walking trails to enjoy with your four-legged friend. Although pet-friendly, dogs must be leashed to be allowed into the park. Traditional Dog Parks in Chico, CA

Lezlie Morrow Memorial Dog Park in Paradise, CA

6705 Moore Rd., Paradise, CA

The Lezlie Morrow Memorial Dog Park is more of a traditional dog park with a substantial off-leash area for dogs, with a special section for smaller dogs. It is located in Paradise, CA, just outside of Chico.

Those reviewing the park have said that it is a good dog park with benches for humans and a large area for dogs to run. As a dog lover, I can attest to the advantages of having a separate area for the smaller breeds and puppies. Those who frequent this park say they particularly appreciate the presence of shade trees on hot days.

Degarmo Dog Park

199 Leora Ct, Chico, CA

530-895-4711

DeGarmo Dog park is located right in Chico. It is a smaller park than the one in Paradise and lacks the amenities of large seating areas and extensive shade. There is a water tub present during the summer months for your furry friend to cool down in. Dogs can run free in the designated area for dogs but must be leashed elsewhere in the park. The Chico Park and Recreation District is working on expanding DeGarmo Park with plans to add an aquatic center.
