Oroville is the county seat of Butte County and is 65 miles north of Sacramento. It sits on the banks of the Feather River. It is considered the gateway to Lake Oroville and the Feather River recreational areas. It has a moderate, Mediterranean climate.

Oroville is home to many beautiful ecological and man-made wonders, such as Oroville Dam, Lake Oroville, Table Mountain and Feather Falls.

Oroville Dam is the largest earth filled dam, as well as the tallest dam in the US. Lake Oroville is the second largest lake in California and offers boating, fishing, hiking, biking and camping. Other activities include equestrian camping and equestrian trails. North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve is 3,300 acres of an elevated basalt mesa with beautiful vistas of spring wildflowers, waterfalls, lava outcrops, and a rare type of vernal pool. Feather Falls is located in the Plumas National Forest and at 410 feet tall it is the sixth tallest year round waterfall in the US.
