Rodeo Beach is the perfect destination for you if you like to get away from it all and enjoy the fresh air. Tucked between Rodeo Lagoon and Rodeo Cove, it’s only around three hours away from Chico.
Pebbled stones in different colors make up most of the beach. Its waters come in endless shades of blue, making it one of the most picturesque beaches in Northern California.
On the south shore of Rodeo Beach are famous rocks that tourists regularly photograph. If you enjoy bird watching, this beach is a great place to spot many different species. Offshore, a small arch known as Bird Rock is easily visible using binoculars.
Stinson Beach is worth checking out if you’re looking for a beach destination close to Chico but still feels like a world away. Located in Marin County, just 35 minutes from downtown San Francisco, this quiet beach is excellent for sunbathing and swimming. If swimming, heed the ripe tide signs. The last thing you’d want to do is get caught up in one.
The sand here is soft and white, making it ideal for sunbathing.
Stinson Beach is also near fantastic destinations like Muir Woods National Monument and Mt. Tamalpais State Park. When you’re done enjoying the beach, these spots are perfect places to explore!

You’ll find it on a cove called Caspar Anchorage, which has an RV campground. Caspar State Beach is one of the best for swimming—but be careful! The water can be cold and strong currents here can change rapidly. Still, this is a fantastic place to go if you want to get away from it all without traveling very far.
